This was on the new books shelf at my library though it came out in the mid 70s I see now that it must be a fairly obscure title without even a photo on here any of my GoodReads Librarian friends able to add one??? Anyhow I thought it was charming At first I found the BW drawings a bit random just a collection of things that start with the letter but then I turned to the color page spreads and found them absolutely enchanting with a spread combining multiple things that start with the letter It's so hard to describe Fujikawa's art but it is definitely nostalgic made me think of something from Sesame Street or maybe some never seen holiday classic in the Rudolph or Frosty ilk In any case I appreciated it though obviously it has not had lasting appeal for the majority of readerspublishers

Fujikawa wrote and illustrated classic stunning children's books I especially like that there are children of color depicted in them She made a book on fairies and fairy tales with little brown and black kids do you know how rare this is? Anyway this is a keepsake uality book

Waaaay back in the late 1970's I came across books for Gyo Fujikawa My children are now grown and some have children of their ownWhat a delight it is to share my children's favorite books with my grandchildrenThe drawings are exuisite and time is spent looking at the pictures than actual reading B is for busy babies is the favorite or maybe it is just mine hands down There are all the little details that the kids just marvel atThe most favorite book of all is Millie's Secret Millie's puppy Buttercup is going to have babies And after reading the board book you go back and look at the pictures and in every picture Buttercup just gets a little plump It is in the fine details that make Gyo Fujikawa's so enduring to children and adults alike I have one grandson who immediately upon walking in the door goes to the bookcase gets Millie's Secret and we have to read itThe only problem is that I wish some of the books could be re released so that I could give my children copies for their children I have found some on eBay but not all of them can be foundI love Gyo Fujikawa's books my children do and now my grandchildren

A friend introduced me to Gyo Fujikawa's books when my daughter was little I love her illustrations of sweet round faced children of all nationalities and have bought her books to give as gifts and for my own family The A to Z picture book has charming illustrations of children and some uniue examples of words for the different letters Joshua tree for J moo goo gai pan for M The book is not all in color There is a page in black and white with each letter in upper and lower case and words that begin with that letter all illustrated Not all nouns there are verbs and adjectives such as Clara is crawling and Henry is hungry for his hamburger After the black and white page comes a color page with a few words or a verse A is for alone All by myself or R is for rain rain and lots rain Stop I say enough is enough There are lots of children's alphabet books on the market from silly to serious This would be a good addition to a child's library for the sweet and colorful illustrations and for the many expected an unexpected words it contains

This is an older picture book that was thankfully re released Yippee for publishers who re release old favoritesThis is an ABC book that will delight preschoolers and even older students learning to read Fujikawa alternates between black and white two page spreads and full color two page spreads The black and white ones are filled with images all beginning with the letter in uestion The color spreads are usually a large unified picture that may contain many items for the letter in uestion ie pigeon peacock puddle and polliwog or simply be a picture of one scene that reflects the letter ie Halloween or Yuletide I am impressed with how multi ethnic the children are in this bookThis is the kind of book to snuggle up with a child and read together slowly or the kind to hand to a child for some uiet rest time with a book
