25 3 STARSAfter a very rough start I finally settled into the writing style and plot pace Overall a nice mellow and enjoyable studentteacher story that’s loosely reminiscent of Cruel Intentions When I first read the blurb I had a bookgasmI mean did you read it? Studentteacher AND stepbrother? So of course I didn’t think twice about it and jumped right in The beginning 20% was a bit rough for me I couldn’t keep up with the overly descriptive writing I think I was supposed to view Kaitlyn as the introverted loner who kept to herself and notices everything that goes around her but that wasn’t the case for me “Glistening gold speckled against the perfect curve of his head when the light hit his skin and while he wasn’t exactly my type I craved a brooding pensive face he was undeniably lovely” This is in reference to the hired landscaper who doesn’t even make an appearance after this scene Why do I need to know all these details again? “My second favorite thing was watching my step brother Marius while he played piano in the Great Room; his Armani shirt unbuttoned to reveal a stretch of sun kissed skin Sweat dripping between two focused pale blue eyes as his fingers worked uickly” This is the first of many observations she makes about himand she doesn’t even like Marius I found it hypocritical that she’s always disgusted by Marius but still manages to notice every tiny little detail about himAnd on top of that Kaitlyn pretty much lived in her head so I wished there was dialogue with other people The main thing that didn’t work for me though was the studentteacher aspect That’s just blasphemy because I always adore studentteacher relationships but in this book it didn’t work for me The reason is that both Will and Kaitlyn gave into their feelings so fast What makes the studentteacher aspect so thrilling and taboo to me is the chase that push and pull dynamic of where the two characters try to resist their feelings but ultimately give in There was no fighting it in here; both characters gave in uickly so their relationship wasn’t too appealing to me On the other hand the stepbrother Marius intrigued me His behavior and actions bordered on eccentric and taboo and though there wasn’t a love triangle aspect in the book numerous hints were dropped into the story suggesting he had a romantic interest in Kaitlyn But The Stupid Girl Is So Blind And Couldn’t See ThatI’ll be honest with you I didn’t like Kaitlyn’s character at all She was so stiff and cold and even though she claimed to love Will I just didn’t see it It all felt contrived All in all reading this book made me sad I was crushed by the time I finished the book because the ending wasn’t what I wanted it to be and what truly depressed me was how right Marius was about first impressions view spoilerKaitlyn would always view him as a manwhore someone who disgusted her and there was no changing that perspective so his love for her could never have worked hide spoiler

15 stars DNF at 50 % Review posted March 24 2014I love lyrical prose emphasis on lyrical and not corny purple prose When I get the impression that an author tries too hard and in the process comes off as pretentious my interest fades away fast As you can gather from my review this was the case with Star Crossed The characters and plot but also the storytelling itself came off as indifferent and unappealing The story was monotonous and fell flat Everything simply plodded along without much purpose I know the purpose of the story was that game to seduce the teacher but still I just didn't feel it and ended up bored Star Crossed is nowhere as good as Leah Raeder's Unteachable because first and foremost it lacked the magic It didn't shine If anything it came off as bland and dull I remember that I didn't fall for the characters in Unteachable but I irrevocably fell for Leah's splendid writing Unfortunately this wasn't the case here I neither liked the characters nor the writing styleWhen I finally DNFd the book I've had my fill of analogies and semi colons I think the uotes are telling than a long winded review It wasn't love I hope not Kaitlyn After all you only met him a few minutes ago I didn't love him But I felt something and that was enough to make me breathe in the air around us like it was some sweet nectar that if I didn't savor then I'd never have the chance He smelled of warm almond; of coffee and sweat which might have been mixed with the espresso I'd drank or the caramel still lacing my breath Cherry sugar still coated my tongue and I wanted him to taste itShame came flooding like a syringe shot straight into the vein mixed with an undeniable thrill She had about the same subtlety of a cow chewing grass but oddly enough there was something sultry about the way her mouth movedMy father was surrounded by his business partners all in suits their faces already flushed from the alcohol that slogged through their veins like motor oilThe candle flame was still dancing rising and falling as the white wax dripped down like sweat from joined bodies At first his hands shot up like a criminal marked with a red hot target; like he was facing certain death by firing suad They fell slow as uick sand eventually finding my hips where they settled with a shaky hesitancy hovering just above the fabricMr Tennant kissed my mouth like it was something to worship something to savor Delicate and delicious his breath shallow as a pool of puddle water And if I were still a child still stuck in the age of sticky sweet candy and hop scotch I would have jumped and played in that murky depth forever When it was just the two of us door securely latched my heart started humming; it trashed around like a caged animal Standing there no words spoken we were like two stranded voiceless islands I could listen to him talk for hours about anything and everything Literature film; his past that was still about as clear as an aged opaue windowMr Tennant remained standing and I watched his throat move as if something lived inside there It's probably a frog Will appeared unconvinced; skimming his hands through hair that only proceeded to fall straight over his forehead; black strands over fair and flawless skin His natural allure was a tragedy itselfJesus he exclaimed; soft and feral in the way the words crawled into my ears sinking like toxic paint into the crevices of my brainOne by one I started unbuttoning my shirt; watching as his eyes like an elevator slowly drop from my chin to that calico fabric There was an undeniable spark in his eyes flint on stone The idea seeped into his face as if I were suggesting he dive into the first sheet of freshly fallen snow He listened without protest; his eyes uickly lapping up every movement like the constant shutter sound of a camera; each millisecond like a frame of film that would forever burn into his mind While XXXXXX kiss felt like the impending explosion of a firework Mr Tennant's mouth against mine was like oxygen drizzling from a cannula; enabling a deeper breath; giving me the sneaking suspicion that there was a deeper strength concealed somewhere amidst entrails and bone I'm very sorry but this book wasn't my cup of tea At all Review at reuest of author Luna LacourAll uotes are taken from the pre published copy and may be altered or omitted in the final copy

You're everywhere I walk You're in each set of eyes I meet; every hand I touch every small smile as I'm scanning faces in a crowd You're all of them Give me a sea of strangers and all I'll see is you I tend to not like a lot of taboo reading material but the studentteacher romance just flat out does it for me And boy was this a surprise I expected something sexual I guess lascivious naughty Don't get me wrong this was definitely a touchy subjectnaughty thoughts and actions of course But the overall tone the pacing the plot and the writing were much romantic and introspective than I had imagined When I say romance I'm not necessarily talking hearts and flowers romance although that was certainly there as well I'm talking of the majestic head in the clouds dreaming big dreams type of romance This author's prose is flowing and pleasingit's not hard to follow it's not pretentious I imagine she is very well read and I'm not talking modern fiction In an interesting combination however she pairs it with a very modern story and a somewhat bitter angry young woman who is at odds with her life of privelege We tossed our trash in the neglected bin; garbage surrounded it in a halo of fuck off And she brings an honesty to her way of looking at the worldat people especially those that she sees as outsiders These seem to be the lucky ones in her eyes She makes the mundane beautiful made me want to look at my normal middle class life as something to be cherishedmiddle class has it good right? Not too poor not too richjuuuuust right Just middle ground enough to enjoy what life has to offer to see the happy in life to see the good in people to see the beauty of the world Powerful thoughts I suppose but only in books can I be reminded to be content with what I have Around us the entire span of Times Suare was ablaze in reds and greens and every color imaginable It sang from the skies that even in their shrouded haze of suggestive gray cotton clouds were penetrated by that hungry energized blanket of life I imagine there will be readers who could become bored with the way the story seems to stagnatethere is a decided lack of dialogue and movement toward the beginning of the story Admittedly it was almost too much for me there for a bit I need action But I held out and I'm happy I did This cast of characters is reminiscent of Cruel Intentionsa fabulous movie from the nineties one of my favoritesand there's no denying the similarities between this book and that movieThe Cast Kaitlyn Eighteen years old and the heir to her father's fortune from his fashion line Her parents are divorced her beautiful cold mother left years ago and hasn't bothered to see Kaitlynn since Her father feels as if his money should be enough for his only daughterhis legacy is the only gift he gives her She attends a prestigious prep school where she gets through each monotonous fake day by being exactly what she is expected to be pretty and perfect Marius Kaitlyn's stepbrother and the instigator of the bet Here lies shades of Cruel intentions that's for sureI'm not the demon that everyone makes me out to be I simply have them; and most of the time I like to think we can coexist Mr Tennant Will The sexy new Literature teacher at schoolhe's British he's young and handsome and the moment Kaitlyn and Will's eyes met a connection was formed NOT insta love; let me be clearan explosive attraction that sparked a long road aheadThere was an inarguable coolness about Mr Tennant; an elegant punk rock mix of British slang and guitar strings He was the Shakespearean rock star the passionate mentor A poised poisoned mess of pressed shirts and disheveled hair He was my teacher my lover my sole melodic malady Tyler The scholarship kidhe doesn't fit in anywhere he dreams of bigger and better things he's in awe of the rich lifestyle that his new friend Kait leads and he's probably the best most loveable person in the book Piper The headmaster's daughter and Marius' new playthingOne thing that struck me different about this book is that despite the Star Crossed Lovers theme the obviously pointed allusion to Romeo and Juliet this story wasn't at all cheesy It was melancholic all of it's characters brooding and moody with the exception of Tyler The focus seems to change unexpectedly but not abruptly from this idiotic bet between Marius and Kaitlyn to a sort of battle of good and badan angel on each shoulder sort of And it's really hard to put blame on anyone it's hard to pass judgement It's interesting to get the perspective that we do from Kaitlyn because on the outside and even sometimes on the inside she seems to be very downtrodden and sad mature in ways that no rich eighteen year old should Alone Not lonely Just alone But you can't feel sorry for the things that you ask for And in other ways she's got such a romantic soul She wants she is reaching for So my opinions about the characters fluctuated uite a bit The ending is one hell of a shocker and I'm not really sure why What do you expect going in to a story like this? A Happy Ending? A tragic ending a la those famous star crossed lovers? I don't know I do know that view spoiler I sure as hell wanted retribution I felt no sympathy for the real snob the real bitch who runs roughshod over anyone she has to in order to get her weird sense of revenge She had absolutely zero conseuences and in fact basically stated that she didn't even care who's lives she ruined What a bitch hide spoiler

This is a hard review for me to write as for the majority of the book I was emotionally detached from it I tried very hard to connect with the main characters in some way and found I just couldn't do it So I tried to figure out why that was exactly The only thing that I came up with is that for a large percentage of the story the heroine; Kaitlyn spent a lot of time thinking There was dialogue in the story; but not as much as there should have been I recently read a book that had very little dialogue; but with that particular story I was sucked right in to the characters involved It is not easy for an author to do and it can be done but only if the reader is still given a lot insight into each character In Kaitlyn's case if she spent time thinking about the people she was with rather than the details of her surroundingsthen maybe I would have been able to connect This leads me to my next big complaint about the first half of this book and that is that everything was written way too descriptive It became way too much and then got frustrating and boring At one point there was a long description of a guy that Kaitlyn ran across so I thought he would be a main character later onwe never saw or heard of him again?? These were my main complaints of the story and of course it carried me through to about half way On the flip side I did stick with it and as Luna Lacour seemed to get comfortable with her writing; the wording got smoother and less descriptive I fell into the story and I will say that Kaitlyn's friend Tyler was who carried my attention through to the end It is kind of amusing to me because as far as Kaitlyn and her teacher Mr Tennant went; I didn't really care much of what went on with them Mr Tennant in my eyes I still don't really know him that welland I for sure wouldn't think of him as someone I would want as one of my book boyfriends that I dream about Tyler had potential though and maybe it was because I felt sorry for him or just that he was such a great supportive friend Marius; who is Kaitlynn's step brother that developed the whole bet for Kaitlyn to seduce her teacherwell he was a horse of a different color He was able to extract some emotion out of me too most of them weren't good; but at least he made me feel Actually for most of the storyline I would guess where the direction of the story was going to go and then it would go in a totally differen't direction It certainly wasn't predictable; but I think I would have enjoyed it if it had of taken a few of the directions that I thought Marius intrigued me and I think there is so much to him than we got I would love to get inside of his head and figure him outIn the end I decided to give Star Crossed a 25 stars and I wouldn't say no in the future to giving this author another chance I also would be interested to read stories about Marius and Tyler As far as Kaitlyn and Will Tennant go though I wish them well on whatever journey they have in book landbut that is about all of the thought I give them Thank you to the author for providing me a copy of the ARC in exchange for an honest review

ARC received by author 'I knew who the real victim was and it wasn't me If there were some fragment of this inevitable explosion that wrote out my name in blood across the tracks I would smear it and cry hearsay Mr Tennant was the victim Yet I kissed him continuously I ran my tongue along his neck and listened to him gasp and moan with a timid noise I had to have him and I had to win I had to win but I had to have him' Genre Romance loosely based around Romeo Juliet with forbidden and taboo aspectsCover 610Writing 910Heroine 910Hero 810Hotness 410Romance 710Extra book Details Heroines POV Approx 299 pagesKAITLYNMR TENNANTBLURB 18 year old Kaitlyn is lost Surrounded by people she doesn't like she resents her money and lifestyle She's destined for a life she doesn't want she feels trapped Her fathers love for her was lost long ago when her mother abandoned them Now she lives with her highly unlikeable step mother and her step brother Marius who is nothing like a brother Once he was her friend but now their boundaries are blurring He's a little a little wicked and daring and too charming for his own goodAfter having to attend yet another socialite gathering a masuerade Kaitlyn ends up meeting the handsome William Tennant She soon realises he's forbidden territory when he announces he'll be her new English teacher and Theater director Unfortunately Marius sees the attraction in her eyes and asks her if she'd like to play a game a game that involves the winner getting the one thing they most desperately want “You have until the end of the semester to seduce Mr Tennant If you succeed you can have my trust find I've no use for the money and I know how much you long to escape this place I know better than anyone else”“And if you win” I breathed “What is it that you want?”“Oh Kaitlyn” he whispered reaching out and cupping my face in his hands“You I want you” So let me start by saying that this hit a lot of my preference buttons I have a terrible weakness for studentteacher affairs or forbidden in general I also don't mind a bit of taboo now and thenTo go into detail there's a ten year age gap for a start Every so often it would say something a little risué too like how Kaitlyn may have 'enjoyed his borderline parental tone' or how she was just a kid or how her school uniform could turn him on and how Kaitlyn most of the time would refer to him as 'Mr Tennant' even in the personal scenes These were subtle comments few and far between intended to play around with the tabooI liked how the author switched things around she wrote Kaitlyn as of a predator but not in a heavy handed way Kaitlyn was the initiator gently coaxing William to be bad with herI loved the characters they were complex and well written The side characters were also I loved Tyler Kaitlyn is a daydreamer almost a little cold hearted impulsive and on the verge of adulthood Will is a beta hero he's a little eccentric passionate vulnerable and kind of a pushover My only complaint with the book would be that sometimes there was too much inner monologue for me I wanted a little romantic meetings interaction and some dialogue 'Star Crossed' is uite casual written with an upper class voice that embodies a girls sexual discovery and the beginnings of adulthood It mixes aspects of 'Lolita' with a loosely based version of Romeo Juliet

The inflections always hung with a sort of hope like the possibility of playing in rainfall was still on the table Nothing was impossibleThe writing was seriously so pretty that alone was enough to make me swoonAndFans of Cruel Intentions will love this bookI do wish there was an epilogue explaining the 45 star but the ending did work I think I was just sad for the book to endI received a copy for an honest review

ARC kindly provided for honest review “You're everywhere I walk You're in each set of eyes I meet; every hand I touch every small smile as I'm scanning faces in a crowd You're all of them Give me a sea of strangers and all I'll see is you”This book blew me away I'm having a hard time even figuring out where to start with this oneso I'll start with the castingMy KaitlynMy Mr 'Will' TennantMy MariusMy TylerOpening line There is one thing first and foremost that you should know about this story it all started with a gameThings this book succeeded in making me do smile wince cry swoon think overuse the highlighting function on my kindle cry some I was really happy and surprised that Ms Lacour was so generous with her ARCs and I'm really glad I was able to read this book It's hard to write a long review without giving away spoilers but I'll try my bestThe best way I can describe this book it's different but beautiful Luna's writing had such depth as other reviewers have said that I felt like I was with Kait every step of the wayTo sum it up Star Crossed tells the story of a girl who falls into a bet with her arrogant step brotherseduce the new teacher Of course the bet ends up turning into so much It started with a gameI think what surprised me the most aside from the uniue prose was the characters Each character really felt as if they were real people with real flaws There was Kaitlyn who came from a very wealthy family She's a virgin but not because she feels there's anything wrong with premarital sexit's because she likes to be in control Marius her step brother is an absolute monster or is he? There's the teacher Mr Tennant British gorgeous and so dreamy who is also the stage director for Trinity Prep's Kaitlyn's school production of Romeo and Juliet Then there's Tyler my favorite He's sensitive kind a wonderful friend to kaithe also gave some of the most convincing reactions I've ever read in studentteacher bookAs for hot and heavy the sex scenes were graphic but written in a way that just flowed so wellnothing felt like it was too much The romance between Will and Kait was so movingand some of the uotes just left me speechless You need to know that when I first saw you standing there in that mask and you told me that you weren't lost – I immediately realized that I wasn't either” Are we star crossed? Yes he said But I would fight against the stars for youBe warned though there is some serious angst in this book Unlike other studentteacher books this one really hits you across the head and will surprise youfrom Will's confession to Marius to the end result of what happens when you get yourself tied into a betand to a teacher All in all a brilliant debut and I absolutely recommend it I'm really look forward to Luna's next book
