For me Limelight is the best film in Charlie Chaplin's talking pictures The book contains the film's pre production and shooting process the effects of the film after the screening and the sources of inspiration from Chaplin's own life In the book you can also find the text of Limelight that looks like a long story rather than a screenplay The most exciting part of the film is that it brings together two legends Chaplin and Buster Keaton The book describes how two legends come together

This is a book for Chaplin's most dedicated fans The first third or so is the text of Footlights Chaplin's novella that formed the basis of the film Limelight The version of the manuscript presented in the book and the final film are not very different Along with this is a short character study of Calvero delving into his past The remainder of the book is a detailed study of the people places and situations that inspired or contributed to the novella and the film The revelation I took from the novella is that Chaplin thought in terms of movement The prose of Footlights is not particularly high caliber in part because Chaplin devotes so many words to detailing the character's movements and reactions Though he may have been consciously writing a novella it's uite clear that he was unconsciously choreographing a filmIf you're the sort who will rewatch all of Chaplin's films multiple times you will likely find this book very interesting If you're a casual fan you might find it a to be bit much
