Well I love Chamberlain uite a bit and though I read the author's introduction and get what he was trying to accomplish with this book it just didn't work for me This book felt like a biography with narrative bits dropped in than a fully dynamic fictional story based on real events It's not badly done for what it is though it could have used with a stiffer copyedit and if you love Chamberlain you may find this worth your time If I could give 25 stars I would

I am a Civil War buff and Joshua Lawrence Chamberlain is a particular hero of mine so coming across a novel about his war exploits was exciting and I was not disappointed The writing is spectacular and not too academic as can sometimes be found in novel form The final pages of the book and Chamberlain’s part in the surrender of the Confederate Army found me tearing up All in all a wonderful and entertaining portrait of a great man
