This book is a great favourite of 23 month old little AJ There are just so many things going on at each page one chaotic scene after another The storyline is as chaotic as the illustrations jumping around from Lowly Worm and Huckle Cat helping to direct traffic to chasing a Bananas thief to saving a train from colliding into another follow by singing and dancing at the television studios saving a ship captain making apple pies with grandma cat intertwined with series of unfortunate events of a very clumsy pig But I guess this is the whole fun of it Little AJ is never bored looking at the pictures and pointing out various objects There are ice cream truck fire truck digger road sweeper truck fork lift truck dump truck school bus water melons window cleaner restaurant newspapers publisher huge passenger ship cargo ship plane etc Each page is a confusing jumbo of objects animals and activities We love this book but a warning to all parents do not offer this book for bed time reading It will take forever to finish reading this There are just too much to see and spot at each page Blog review here

Scarry's books were faves when I was a kid I'm given to understand there is some controversy about changes that have been made to various recent editions I know my favorite of his from days of yore was in fact out of print for a long time for reasons that would be super obvious if you saw my copy and there may be updates to this one as well but it strikes me as being every bit as much fun as ever making adulthood seem like something to aspire to I enjoyed and enjoy imagining a world for of mostly productive mostly grown up animals getting on with happy daily life and the occasional ongoing catastrophe poor Mr Frumble

Busiest People Ever seems to be an unfortunately poorly executed attempt at a seuel to What Do People Do All Day? While the latter struck a perfect balance between the main action and slapstick humor in the background this newer collection of stories leans far too heavily toward a chaotic riot of activity on every page mostly unrelated to the story line There is such a thing as being too busy even in the world of Richard Scarry

This is a book that takes me back to my grandparents' house I remember sitting on my grandmother's green couch when I was very little as she read this book There was a little gold bug that hid in every scene as the story went along Very fun parent child read aloud book

I don't remember a lot about this one beyond the fact that I definitely read it as a kid
