In the book Adoption Is for Always by Linda Walvoord Girard is about Celia who was adopted four days after she was born Celia has always known that she was adopted but it was never an issue until recently when her parents said the word adoption and she finally realizes what it means Celia starts uestioning who her real parents are and uestions why her birth parents did not want her Celia's adoptive parents explain to her how she became theirs and why her birth parents gave her up for adoption By the end of the book Celia's adoptive parents decide to have a little celebration for every anniversary that Celia got adopted and this makes her feel better The major theme of this book is that family is not just necessarily mean blood or genetically related it is the people that raised you and love you unconditionally This book was great the illustrations were black and white and I think there is a hidden message in that The situation of being an adopted child can be a confusing subject for a child so the author made the illustrations black and white no grey areas to keep everything simple for the child reading the book This was a very cute story and I even learned about the process of adoption I would recommend this book for kids who are finally starting to understand what adoption really means This book not only explains what adoption is really about but it also shows any child in this situation that they are not alone

Adoption Is for Always is a children’s book by Linda Walvoord Girard that focuses on a young girl named Celia and her struggle to understand and come to terms with her adoption As a five year old she struggles to understand why she was adopted because she believes that it meant that she wasn’t and isn’t loved As the story progresses Celia realizes the immense love her parents have her as well as the importance of having a birthmother As a literacy teacher I believe that this would be an important book to use when discussing adoption because it discusses the internal conflict that many adopted children face I think students would use this book to learn about adoption especially children that are adopted and are struggling with coming to terms with those implications The author does an amazing job of approaching an aspect of adoption that many adopted children experience and she does it in a very realistic and respectful manner For the purpose of exploring various family units I would use this text to explore aspects of adoption

Adoption can be a confusing subject for children to comprehend This book is all about a little girl named Celia and her struggle with figuring out who she was and why she was adopted Celia wasn't able to understand why she was adopted nor did she want to understand In her mind being adopted meant that she wasn't loved and that her adoptive parents were not her real parents The author does a great job of showing how much the adoptive parents loved her and how important the birthmother is to an adoptive child I would say that this book may be for a slightly older child because of the content but it is a good read nonetheless It can definitely be used in the classroom In my opinion the genre of this book is realistic fiction because it is based on real world situations The children will relate whether it is true to their personal situation or not

Adoption is for Always is a realistic fiction story written by Linda Walvoord Girard During the story Celia's parents inform her that she was adopted Celia felt many different emotions and was not too sure how to accept the news at first Throughout the story Celia's parents help her get through her anger by creating a family holiday on the day she was adopted This book would be a good story to read to young children who have been adopted or who have friends who were adopted The author did a good job explaining what a child feels like but also normalizing the fact that adoption is something that occurs all the time The illustrator did a good job displaying emotion throughout the book which would help the reader understand the emotions that the character is feelings throughout each part of the book

I don't like you she yelled when she came back down 'You're not beautiful like my real mommy She was a movie star And my daddy was a football player' Celia just made that up to make her mother feel badThroughout the book a child named Celia goes through a journey of confusion and anger to try and come to terms with the fact that she was adopted This is a great book for children that are going through the same journey as Celia and want to understand their position through a book The language in the book is very relevant to how a real child may talk if heshe is feeling confused or angry about their situation in life All the while the illustrations in the book relate uite well with the text that is shown on each page
